This is your one-stop coding shop for learning about shaders. So let’s get started.

First of all, whats a shader? Well, a shader is a chunk of code that is executed by your graphics card – that’s the same part of your iPad that is responsible for processing movies. Shaders, however, have a much more general purpose. They can transform large 3D models consisting of thousands of triangles into an image with realistic lighting and rich textures. But before you can do that, you need to learn the basics. That’s where shEdit comes to your aid.

We’ve provided you with a simple Wireframe View, complete with an ambient light, a camera, and a box model – tap and zoom to move the light and camera around. The Code View gives you an interactive editor for both the vertex and fragment shaders. Finally, the Render View demonstrates the effect of your shaders on the 3D world.

So without further ado, sit down and relax. shEdit and forget it.
